Obituary

Lorraine M. Beck of Landisville, passed into eternal life on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia after a valiant 3 year battle with leukemia. Born in Lancaster on September 28, 1955, Lorraine was the devoted daughter of the late Phyllis M. Stopper. She was also the granddaughter of the late Dominic and Annunciata (Gadino) Cuzzuculi, as well as the cherished daughter-in-law of the late Goddard and Dorothy Beck. She was the loving wife of Thomas A. Beck for 25 years. Lorraine was a proud graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School Class of 1973. She received her R.N. from Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing and her Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from the University of Phoenix. She spent her professional life as a skilled and compassionate nurse, completely devoted to giving her patients outstanding care. She worked for over 30 years at Lancaster General Hospital, primarily as nurse manager in the renal dialysis unit, receiving Manager of the Year honors for many years. She also worked as an infusion nurse at Ephrata Cancer Clinic. Lorraine was gifted with a beautiful voice and greatly enjoyed performing in musical theatre at the Fulton Opera House, Mount Gretna Playhouse, and Ephrata Theater. She also sang professionally with various groups, most notably the Don Trostle Quartet, appearing in numerous functions and at a variety of venues, including the White House and for the Philadelphia Phillies. She had a wide variety of interests and hobbies that she pursued enthusiastically. Lorraine was a lifelong and deeply committed Catholic woman of faith and a member of St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church. She had the rare pleasure of hosting the late Bishop Joseph McFadden for her famous lasagna at her home last December. Lorraine was a very warm, gracious, and generous person who made the most of the every moment. She had a sincere and caring heart and was a tremendous asset in all areas of her life. She had a sparkle in her eyes, a great smile, and an infectious laugh. She was a true friend to all who knew her. She was a very positive person with a giving spirit, always ready to reach out to people and lend a helping hand. She will always be cherished by those who knew her. She was a complete joy, a real treasure. She had a uniquely fulfilling and honorable life. Lorraine is survived by her husband Tom and her loving son, John William and his fiancé Rachel Shoemaker, as well as her sister, Diane L. Ross and her two children Alex L. Ross and Anne M. Ross. She is also survived by her Beck-in-laws: Goddard Jr. and Willanne Beck, Suzanne and Keith Hoke, Kathleen Beck, Francine and Tom Moyer, Stephen Beck, and Michael and Connie Beck, as well as her Beck nieces and nephews: Nathan and Evan Beck, Megan, Kevin, and Hannah Cuff, Dr. Molly Hoke, Jonathan and Allison McMillan, Jillian and Kyle Almoney, and Patrick, Sarah, and Kendall Beck. Memorial services are as follows: The family will welcome friends Tuesday, July 30, 2013, from 6-8 PM with the Holy Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:30 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17543. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17603, on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Peter I. Hahn officiating. Interment at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Columbia, PA will be private.
