Lonny Joe Jones of Lancaster, Pa died Monday December 23, 2024 at Lancaster General Hospital.
Lonny loved his wife, Vera, unequivocally. He played football in his youth and was an excellent center. He was a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters in his twenties and always wanted to help children. Lonny was a family man who worked hard all of his life to provide a better life for his children than he had for himself. He enjoyed umpiring girls' softball and umped the Little League Girl's World Series. He loved sports and was a fan of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles.
He was preceded in death by his mother Miriam (Coleman) Jones and father, Richard Jones, his sisters and brothers, Elizabeth (Betty) and Bob Shipman, Beverly Jones, Richard Jones Jr. and Colleen Jones, Saundra (Jones) and Donald Hessert, and Deborah (Deb) Buchen.
Lonny is survived by his beloved wife, Vera (Lefever) Jones, his children, Amy (Hess) and Pete Wittmaier, Andrea Hess, Jonathan and Trina Hess, Joshua and Andrea Jones, and Emily (Jones) and Christopher Guido. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A service to celebrate Lonny's life will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. The family will welcome guests from 1 -2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters .
