IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lloyd Elias
Scalyer
May 27, 1936 – January 9, 2024
Lloyd Elias Scalyer was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 27, 1936. He passed away January 9, 2024, after a brief illness. Son of the late Marc and Ruth (Rogalsky) Scalyer, he was born into the Jewish faith, and became a Christian in his 30's. In New York he had been a cement mason, eventually owning a flooring installation company, and he also served in the New York Army National Guard as a cook.
In 1968 he purchased a chicken farm in Lancaster County, and with his family and in-laws turned it into a highly successful motel, the Cherry Lane Motor Inn. He was a great businessman, but his true passions were his family and encouragement by the Scriptures. He was a long-time elder at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, and Spiritual Leader of the Seed of Abraham Congregation, and his family.
He loved all things family related. He loved spending time with his wife at their cabin on Lake Wallenpaupack, where he would bring the family together for long weekends of boating and board games. For many years he enjoyed Spring fishing trips to Maine with his father-in-law and son. He loved sincerely and gave the world's best hugs.
He is preceded in death by his son, Gregg and his sister, Judee. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Judith, daughter Gwenn wife of Eric, son Gavin, daughter Glory wife of Stuart, grandson Gabrielle, granddaughter Savannah, grandson Zack, great-granddaughters Sienna and Olivia, and his sister Ann.
A public memorial will be planned for in the Spring. A family only service will be held graveside.
Please omit flowers, and kindly consider a contribution in Lloyd's name to Burning Hearts Community Church, 2460 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 Burning Hearts Community Church or to Jewish Family Service of Lancaster, 75 E. James Street, Lancaster, PA 17602 Jewish Family Service of Lancaster
