Lidia Maglio 89, of Lancaster passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, February 19, 2024. Born in Frigento, Avellino, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Gennaro and Tommasina (Martone) Genua. She married her husband, Americo Maglio, who passed away in 1993, in Italy and she immigrated to the U.S. in 1963.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Velletri (David Hoadley), Lancaster; grandchildren, Bryson Velletri (Chelsea), Lancaster and Haley Velletri (Oliver Ryder), Philadelphia; two great grandchildren and several step grandchildren. Her siblings include Felicina Genua, (Geraldo, deceased); Teresa Genua, (Angelo, both deceased); Giovanni Genua, deceased, (Michelina) all of Italy; Michele Genua (Teresa Rosa) of Canada; Yolanda Genua (Attillio, both deceased) of Italy; Rosina Genua (Mario), of Canada. Her stepchildren include Sandra Fitch (Thomas); Elizabeth Riccio (Ralph); and Mary Lawlor (John), all of CT. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.
Lidia treated everyone like family and she especially delighted in cooking for family and friends. She had a unique talent for crocheting and knitting, which produced creative gifts that are now cherished heirlooms. Looking nice was important to Lidia and she especially enjoyed wearing attractive jewelry. She liked nothing more than to have someone sit with her and have a good conversation.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice; Kate, her nurse; Nicole, her CNA; and her caretakers from Red Lion Home Care, including Clare DiSebastian; Agnes Scholl, and Karen Derosa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 119 South Prince Street, Lancaster, PA. The family will receive family and friends at the church on the same day between 9:30 and 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lidia's memory may be made to Amedisys Foundation; 3854 American Way, Suite A, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70816.
