Leonard Solodky, 91, of Lancaster, PA, formerly of Philadelphia passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Moravian Manor. He was born on July 14, 1918 in Philadelphia to the late Max and Ida (Lotman) Solodky.
Leonard lived at Country Meadows the past three years.
He was in the clothing manufacturing business and a partner of the Atlas Company in Ephrata with his brothers. The Atlas Overall Company was originally founded in Philadelphia by Leonard's father, Max, and the company celebrated a 100th anniversary.
Leonard was a Veteran of WWII with the US Army. His activity during WWII included the Reconnaissance Company, 638 th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 84 th Infantry Division, 1 st Army, European Theatre of Operations and Staff Sergeant. He also was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge and member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge South Central Pennsylvania Chapter.
Leonard was a member of Temple Beth El. He was a lifetime member of the B'nai B'rith International and Temple Beth El's Mens Club.
Leonard was a member of Media Heights Golf Club, American Legion Ephrata Post #0249, Lancaster Jewish Community Center, and served as Past Chairman of March of Dimes. He was a former member of the Lancaster Elks Lodge #134.
He was an avid golfer, Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. He also enjoyed playing baseball and football growing up.
Leonard is survived by his former wife, Vera (Salomon) Solodky of Lancaster, longtime friend and companion, Shirley Reider, of Ephrata, a daughter, Marilyn S. Goldman Reichenthal, wife of Jay, of Lititz, five grandchildren, Carrie, Eric, Kimberly, Ian, and Richard, four great grandchildren, Jordan, Benjamin, Noah, and Kelly, many nieces, nephews, and friends from Ephrata and the Country Meadows Community. He was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Joel Solodky (2004) of Lancaster, three brothers, Morris, Milton, and Leon Solodky, three sisters, Bertha Kane, Muriel Gottlieb, and Sylvia Nelson.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 11:30 am at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Chapel 3110 Lititz Pk. Lititz, PA 17543 with Rabbi Stephan O. Parnes officiating. Friends and family may gather at the funeral home from 11am-11:30am prior to the service. Interment will take place in Beth El Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. The Meal of Consolation will follow the interment at Temple Beth El. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leonard's memory may be made to Temple Beth El 1836 Rohrerstown Rd. Lancaster, PA 17601.
