Obituary

LAWRENCE STEVENS RUNDLETT, 73 Written by George "Buzz" Rundlett and Melanie Rundlett It is with deepest regret that I announce the passing of our friend and my beloved twin, Larry Rundlett. Larry passed on October 28, 2013, after a two year illness. He died, peacefully, in his home in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, with his wife Melanie by his side. Larry was born in Rockland, ME. He spent his grade school years between Rockland and Standish, ME. After graduating from Portland High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a heavy-equipment driver for a transportation company in Germany. While in Germany, he boxed for Special Services Seventh Army as a welter-weight champion. After discharging from the Army, he received a degree in Education from the University of Maine-Orono and taught math at Kennebunk, ME High School. Larry made a career change to study Navy Health Physics at the Portsmouth, NH Navy Shipyard where he became a training instructor for Radiological Protection on nuclear submarines. Larry then entered the world of commercial nuclear power and worked under the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in power plants in NJ, KS, OH and NH. Larry was the consummate life and sports enthusiast: he was a certified Captain of the Life Guards in Kennebunk, ME; a ski instructor; a white water rafting guide; a certified PADI diver; and a certified referee for the College Basketball Officials Association (CBOA). With his wife Melanie, they became avid tennis players and fans of the game along with kayaking the entire coast of ME. Larry was predeceased by his half-sister Barbara Gerrish of Wells, ME, and his half-brother, David Blue, of Redding, CA. He is survived by his spouse of 21 years, Melanie Appleby Rundlett, and three brothers: Half-brother John; Twin brother, George "Buzz" and wife Linda; and Ellsworth "Derry" Rundlett III and wife Marilyn. He is also survived by his children: son Mark; daughter Sherri, grandson Nathan and great-grandson Tyler; daughter Sara, her husband Tim and granddaughter Ladybird; and son Christopher, his fiancée Sophia and granddaughter LuLu. Larry's extended family include his parent's in law, Lloyd and Joyce Appleby; four brothers-in-law, Lloyd Jr, wife Pam; Stephen, wife Connie, nephew Ryan and his wife Kim, and niece Emily; Douglas and wife Maureen, nephews Brian and Jason; and Timothy and his wife Teresa, and nephews Timothy Jr. and Daniel. As many family and friends have commented, "heaven has no idea what they are in store for!" Larry's grin, his love of life, his generosity and his gift of making people smile and laugh will always live in our hearts. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543, with the Rev. Mardean Moyer officiating. Larry's family will receive friends from 1-2pm at the funeral home. To send online condolences, please visit SynderFuneralHome.com. (717-560-5100).
