L. Fred (Lloyd Frederick) Husson, 98, of Lititz, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025. He was the husband of the late Mary E. Duing Husson, who passed away in 2022. Born in Rohrerstown, he was the son of the late Lloyd S. and Sarah E. Achey Husson.
Fred enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in April, 1945 and was discharged from Lowery Air Force Base on November, 1945 just seven months after his enlistment. In 1947 he became a full-time student at the School of Modern Photography in NYC. Upon graduation he accepted a one-year assignment with the Bollingen Foundation to travel to Egypt for the 1949/50 winter season to photograph ancient religious texts in tombs in Luxor and the Pyramid of Unas. This assignment led to a lifelong interest in Egyptian history.
After his return from Egypt, Fred enrolled at Franklin & Marshall College where he earned a BA in History. In 1955 Fred started work at Rudisill Printing Company, which was later acquired by RR Donnelley & Sons. When he left Donnelley in 1975, he had achieved the position of Plant Superintendent of the Pre-Press Dept. Following his employment at Donnelley, Fred worked at Wagaman Brothers Printing and Intelligencer Printing before retiring in 1993 from Lancaster Ultra-Graphics, where he was Owner and Chairman. During his career in the printing industry, Fred was a charter member of the Susquehanna Litho Club.
Fred was an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he volunteered countless hours serving on various committees over the years. He and Mary enjoyed traveling and took wonderful trips together, both in Europe and the U.S. For many years, Fred enjoyed building scale model radio control planes. Quite a few of his RC planes can be viewed hanging from the ceiling in the Lancaster Airport terminal building. In his later years, Fred switched to ship models and spent long hours building intricate wooden ships. Always a scholar, part of his enjoyment of these projects was researching and learning the details of each ship's history.
Fred is survived by his children: Sue married to Peter Newswanger of New Holland, Sally married to Paul Schoffstall of New Tripoli, Steven of Arizona and Sylvia married to Greg Lashley of Millersville; his eight grandchildren Brett Newswanger, Sarah and Nathan Schoffstall, Ryan Friedberg, Jonathan, Christopher and Andrew Husson and their mother Nancy Husson, Kenny Lashley; and two great granddaughters, Onie and Ada Friedberg. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Vivian, Sarah and Marilyn.
Fred's family would like to thank the staff at Landis Homes, especially the Birch Personal Care Unit for their kind and compassionate care. They are a wonderful group of caring professionals.
Friends will be received by Fred's family on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 9:00-10:00 AM at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz PA. The Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Godfred Effisah officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Fred's memory to the Landis Homes Caring Fund Endowment, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543.
