Kenneth R. Backus, 58, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at the Lancaster General Hospital.  Born in Lynnwood, CA he was the son of the late August H. and Elizabeth Rahn Backus.  He was married to Donna Delores Hoskins Backus for thirty-five and ½ years.

He retired form the US Marine Corps after twenty- two years of service as a staff sergeant. A Viet-Nam Veteran he was awarded the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters.

Recently, he worked in retail management for Dollar General in Mountville.

Along with his wife he will be missed by his children, Kenneth R. II married to Joy Backus of Indiana; Keith D. married to Kristy Backus of CA; Victoria L. wife of Joey San Nicholas of CA; Lisa Beth wife of David McCoy of Jonestown; Stacy R. wife of Eric Gaenzle of Marietta; eleven grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Payne and Marjorie McKnight both of CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA on Sunday at 4PM.  A receiving time will be held at the funeral home from 3PM until the time of the service.  Please omit flowers.  Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Children's Miracle Network c/o Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Academic Support Bldg., 600 Centerview Dr., Hershey, PA 17033.
