Kathleen “Kathy” Landis went home to be with her Lord on April 27, 2026 after a difficult, year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. It was a battle she fought fiercely. Kathy was born in Lancaster and was the daughter of the late Wilmer and Elizabeth Stevens. Kathy was raised in Willow Street, where she attended and graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School. Kathy worked in the Planning Bureau of the City of Lancaster and later for Penn State University, first at the former Penn State Lancaster Center and later at Penn State York, retiring after 25 years.
Kathy was the loving wife of Michael Landis for 51 incredible years. The couple have two daughters, Erin Landis wife of Brent of Mt. Wolf, PA and the late Amy Flugga of Indiana, PA. Amy passed away on January 2, 2026, after a likewise fierce battle with cancer that at times saw mother and daughter undergoing chemotherapy side-by-side at Lancaster Cancer Center, where they were cared for by a compassionate and dedicated staff without equal.
Kathy loved her animals, especially the countless dogs and cats she and Mike had throughout their marriage. It was a love of animals that she passed onto her daughters who cared for a dizzying variety of pets throughout their childhoods.
Kathy was a member of Hamilton Park United Church of Christ whose members provided unwavering support throughout Kathy’s and Amy’s illnesses. In keeping with her passion for gardening, Kathy was also a member of the Lancaster Garden Club and Lancaster Herb Guild, whose members have been wonderful friends throughout her illness. Her gardens and flower beds around her home were beautiful and amazing in their variety of plants and flowers. But most of all, Kathy was proud to be the mother of two amazingly talented daughters and grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren, who she adored.
Kathy was preceded in death by her daughter Amy, and by her brother, W. Gary Stevens.
A Service Celebrating Kathy’s Life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Hamilton Park United Church of Christ, 1210 Maple Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603. Family and friends will be received from 10-11AM at the church on Saturday. Donations can be made in memory of Kathy to the Healing Journey Foundation c/o Lancaster Cancer Center, 703 Lampeter Road, Lancaster, PA 17602 or Raven Ridge Wildlife Center, www.ravenridgewildlifecenter.org.
