Judy Avila, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at the age of 76. Born in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Jose Alicea and Maria Velez.
A devoted follower of the Gospel, Judy cherished her faith and made it her mission to share love and kindness with everyone around her. Her passion for cooking was evident; she found joy in preparing meals and sharing them with friends and family, often bringing nourishment to those in need. Judy's talents extended beyond the kitchen; she was self-taught in many areas of life but particularly as a self-taught seamstress, displaying remarkable skill that showcased her creativity and resourcefulness.
Judy had a vibrant spirit, characterized by a sassy personality that could light up any room. She loved to shop and express herself through clothing, always bringing a touch of style and color to her life. A true lover of animals, she had a special place in her heart for cats, who provided her with companionship and joy. Judy leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She was a beloved mother and wife, known for her selflessness and her ability to put the needs of her children above her own, ensuring they always had more than they needed.
Judy is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Isaias Avila; her children: Lissette Ingles- Otero (wife of the late Ramon L. Otero), Jannet Ingles-Melero (wife of Soel Melero), Jose "Pachi" Ingles (husband of Evelyn Ingles) and Judy Inez Avila-Alicea; her grandchildren: Jonathan A. Vasquez, Nathaniel A. Vasquez, Amanda "Clover" M. Vasquez, Karina D. Melero, Bianca L. Melero, Vanessa M. Melero, Soel Evan Melero, Erica Ingles Dieter, Deborah Ingles, Andres Martinez, Emily Martinez and Isaias Martinez; and her great grandchildren: Sarai T. Vasquez, Jon S. Vasquez, Lyla J. Vasquez, Nova L. Vasquez, Enoch Dieter, Lucas Dieter and Alyssia Ingles Dieter. In addition to her parents, Judy is preceded in death by her daughter Jacqueline Ingles-Day (wife of George Day).
Family and friends will gather to honor Judy on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E King St, Lancaster, PA 17602 from 10:30am to 12pm. Burial will follow at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
