Josie E. "Joe" Buckwalter, of Lititz, passed away quietly, surrounded by his family, at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the age of 84.
Joe was the son of the late David R. and E. Marie (Esbenshade) Buckwalter. He was a loving husband and dedicated father. Joe farmed as a young boy with his brothers and parents. He and his wife of 63 years farmed what became their homestead on Koser Road, where they raised their 5 children.
Joe graduated from Manheim Township High School. He was a board member of the Lancaster Stockyards and a partner in the development of Bent Creek Country Club. He was a member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon.
Joe enjoyed following the cattle market, growing crops, antiquing, and playing card games with family and friends.
Joe is survived by his wife, Nancy (Hershey) Buckwalter of Manheim; 5 children: Patsy (Mario) Pugliese of Lititz; Margaret Deihm of Lancaster; J. Edward (Joy Hollinger) of Lititz; Michael (Catherine George) of Marietta; and Barbara (Bruce) Williams of Gibsonia, PA. He was a grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren to date. He was preceded in death by his brothers, David E., Richard E., and James E., all formerly of Lititz.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 11 AM at Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601 with Dr. J. Calvin Wenger and Pastor Jeffrey B. Rill officiating. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 PM Monday, August 11, 2014 at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 N. Penryn Rd., Manheim in Hoffer Auditorium and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be at 2:30 PM in East Petersburg Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the church at the address above, or to Occupational Development Center, 640 Martha Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601.
