Obituary

Josephine M. Polignone, 92, formerly of Quarryville, passed away at St. Anne's Retirement Community on July 28, 2016. The last of thirteen children, she was born in Lancaster to the late Matthew and Marie Antoinette Silvestri Polignone.

She graduated from West Lampeter High School, St. Joseph School of Nursing and Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Commander Polignone served 28 years in the US Navy as a nurse administrator and educator spanning WWII, Korea and Vietnam. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Quarryville.

Josephine is survived by three nieces; Barbara Ann, wife of Chester Bentley, III of Lancaster, Virginia Mary Weaver of Lancaster and JoAnn M., wife of John T. Eshleman of Lampeter; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

Commander Poligone's Mass of Christian Burial will take place 8:45 AM, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 in the Old Post Chapel at Fort Myer on Joint Base Myer-Henderson (JBM-HH), 204 Lee Avenue, Bldg. #335, Arlington, VA 2221, with Full Military Honors and burial at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrive at the Fort Myer by 8 AM to allow ample time to be admitted onto the base. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512.
