Obituary

Josephine R. Manikas, 87, died Monday at Lancashire Hall. She had formerly resided with her daughter, Janice Hardeman on Parkwynne Dr in Lancaster.

She was the wife of the late Anthony E. Manikas, who died in 1951. Born in Gilberton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Anna (Yuknavage) Domblosky.

Josephine had been a homemaker, and had previously worked at the Locust Mountain Hospital in Shenandoah for 10 years, retiring in the early 1980s.

She attended St. John Neumann Catholic Church, and was a very active former member of Our Lady of Siluva Catholic Church in Maizeville, PA, where she was involved in the church auxiliary.

Josephine was involved with the ladies auxiliary of the Gilberton Fire Co., enjoyed singing, musical programs, traveling, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Joyce A. married to Dr. Jerome Buzas of Sinking Spring, PA, and Janice A.  married to Thomas Hardeman of Lancaster; and 5 grandchildren: Heather (Buzas) Campbell, Christopher Buzas, Jessica Buzas, Amy (Hardeman) Zangari,and Jill Hardeman.

She was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Emma Delinsky, Mary Gozensky, and Helen Sullivan, and by a brother, Joseph Dombosky.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 1:30-2:30PM at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster, with a Mass to follow at 2:30PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Josephine's memory to the Gilberton Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, Main St., Gilberton, PA 17934  or to Our Lady of Siluva Catholic Church, Main St., Maizeville, PA 17931.
