Obituary

Joseph J. Dyer, 86 of Landisville, formerly of Newark, NJ passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Hospice & Community Care, Lancaster surrounded by his loving family. Born in Newark, NJ he was the son of the late Patrick and Sarah (Hart) Dyer. He was married to the late Hazel A. (Roof) Dyer who passed away in 1996.

He was a WWII veteran proudly serving with the US Navy. Joe graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University and went onto work for RCA as an accountant retiring from there in 1987 after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and volunteered for many years with the church and also at Sunnyside Ministries. He enjoyed bowling, family ancestry, golfing, gardening, listening to Rush Limbaugh, watching Fox News, preparing people's taxes, watching Eagles football, Duke basketball and most of all visiting all his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children: Four Sons, Daniel P. Dyer, husband of Bettina of Moorestown, NJ, Joseph F. Dyer, husband of Frances of Medford, NJ, Richard J. Dyer, husband of Wendy of Doylestown, PA, and Matthew J. Dyer of Lancaster. Two daughters: Maureen A.  Wittmer, wife of Bart A., of Smithfield, RI and Anne-Marie of Hummelstown, PA. Also surviving is a sister, Helen Gavarny and 7 grandchildren: Daniel, Ashley, Ryan, Derek Dyer and Meghan, John and Mary Wittmer. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kathleen Wittmer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10AM on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601 with Rev. Peter I. Hahn as Celebrant. A viewing will be held from 6-8PM on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA 17551 with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 8PM and viewing  again from 9-10AM on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
