John J. Zonka, 96, of Lancaster, passed away on November 24, 2024.

He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Galen Zonka, who passed away in 1998. Born in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late John and Zofia Compel Zonka.

John had worked as a draftsman for the Burnham Boiler Company of Lancaster.

He was a US Army and US Navy veteran, serving in the Navy on the aircraft carrier, USS Coral Sea (CV-43). He was a proud veteran, and was a member of the Elizabethtown VFW and the AmVets.

John was a long-time member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, and later at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church.

He enjoyed bowling, fishing and gardening, particularly his tomato plants.

John is survived by his children: Alicia married to Brian Schmude of Lancaster, Matthew married to Carmen Zonka of Mount Joy, and Cynthia Zonka, and by his grandchildren: Kayla R. Zonka and Alan married to Alysha Lilly-Zonka. He was preceded in death by his 3 sisters: Ann Czyz, Helen Litvin, and Elizabeth Pawcio.

John's family would like to thank the Sisters and staff of Misericordia Nursing and Rehab Center for their kind and compassionate care over the years.

Friends will be received by John's family on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 10-11AM at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603, with the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11AM. Interment with military honors in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.
