John W. Woestman, 93, of Lancaster, died Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Evergreen Estates. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was the husband of the late Catherine J. (O'Rourke) Woestman, who died March 20, 2001. They had been married 54 years. He was the son of the late Harry and Florence (Ireland) Woestman. John was a proud WWII Army veteran. He served as an Army Signal Corps Second Lieutenant in the North Africa and Italy campaigns. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, Red Rose Repeater Association, York Area Computer Club, and MARS (Military Auxiliary Radio System). He was a former member of Lancaster Liederkranz. John received his Bachelor's Degree from Xavier University and his Master's in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati, both in Ohio. He spent many years working for RCA and General Electric, where he was responsible for 7 patents, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lancaster. John is survived by two sons: Timothy Woestman and his wife Catherine of Havertown and Philip Woestman of Mount Joy; 5 daughters: Mary Catherine Woestman and her husband Christopher Turner of Franklin Forks, PA, Margaret Lang and her husband Paul of Havertown, Dr. Elizabeth Ann Capacio and her husband Benedict of Joppa, MD, Ellen Goodman and her husband Bret of Lancaster, and Dr. Joanne Woestman and her husband William of Reston, VA; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; and a sister, Marialice Heck of Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward, who died in 1975, and 2 sisters: Florence Rickling and Joan Putman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St, Lancaster with the Rev. Daniel O'Brien as Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday, December 8, 2014 at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St, Lancaster and again from 10 to 11:30 AM at the church on Tuesday. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's memory may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Central Pennsylvania Chapter, 2405 Park Dr., Ste. 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to Red Cloud Indian School, 100 Mission Dr., Pine Ridge, SD 57770-2100.
