Obituary

John S. Voulopos, 85, formerly of Valleybrook Drive, Lancaster, died unexpectedly at The Long Community at Highland on Thursday, August 22, 2013. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Stergos and Maria Hondras Voulopos.

He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School and attended Hellenic College Holy Cross Seminary in Brookline, MA, for two years. John first worked in Lancaster as a banquet manager at Hotel Brunswick. He then worked as country club manager for Lancaster Country Club (6 1/2 yrs), Crofton Country Club (5 yrs), Berkshire Country Club (14 yrs), DuPont Country Club and finally Red Lion Country Club (3 yrs). Having been a Country Club Manager since 1959, he received the 50 year membership award from the Club Managers Association of America in 2009. John was an outstanding host and had a special way of connecting with people which led to his successful career as a Club Manager. He had a great sense of humor and a kind disposition. John had the privilege to personally meet Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Betsy King.

An active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, John played on the youth basketball and baseball teams, his beautiful tenor voice was appreciated by all as he sang weekly in the choir, and he enjoyed being a host and greeter for the annual Greek Food Bazaar since 1991.

John is survived by a daughter and three grandchildren, brother Paul Voulopos, husband of Kanella, of Mount Joy; four nephews and their wives, Steve and Wendy, James and Dory, Dennis and Jolie and Timothy and Dana; and seven great-nephews and nieces who will remember all the fun they had with him at his pool, and the care he took to insure a nice time with him when they visited. John liked his independence, but was always appreciative when friends and family brought him food, or called to say hello.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, August 26, 2103, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603, with Rev. Dr. Alexander Goussetis officiating.
