John R. Tearney of Lancaster age 84, died peacefully Saturday morning at Brethren Village after an illness. John was born in Lancaster PA and was the son of the late George and Catherine A. (Hodgen) Tearney. John was married to Patricia A (Rieker) July 1, 1950 and they just celebrated 64 years of marriage.
John owned and operated Tearney Plumbing and Heating for over 45 years with his wife Pat working with him running the home office. He was the past president of the Lancaster County Plumber's Asso. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, cooking, oil painting and gardening. He was a man who enjoyed reading. John was a member of St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was also a former member of the YMCA and St Joseph Men's Club. John loved spending time with his family and was very proud of them.
Surviving John besides his wife Pat are 2 daughters, Kathleen L. Howard wife of William, and Christine M Walsh wife of Gerard both of Lancaster, four granddaughters Stacy Baldwin, Melissa Edwards, Kelly Walsh and Maureen Conte, 3 great grandchildren Ethan, Addison and Colin. Surviving are also 1 brother and 2 sisters George Tearney husband of Lois of Wyomissing PA, Margaret Yeager of Reading PA and Anne Strauss of Millsboro DE. John was preceded in death by a sister Sara Mitchell who died just a few hours before John.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday August 7, at 10:00 am at St Mary Catholic Church 119 S Prince St Lancaster PA with Rev Philip G Burger ( his nephew) as Celebrant. A visitation with the family will be at the church on Thursday morning from 9 to 10 am. Interment will take place at St Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
