John "Jack" Music, 84, of Lancaster, died at his residence on January 2, 2006. Born in Childress, Texas, he was the son of the late Rondo and Madeline Hanson Music of Van, Texas. He was married to his "beautiful girl", Barbara Isett Music, for sixty-three years.
In addition to his wife, he will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Barbara M., married to Dr. Thomas W. Andersen of Lancaster, and (Elizabeth) Ann, married to Douglas G. Crowe of Parkton, MD; also four grandchildren: Barbara E. and Mark T. Andersen of Lancaster and Katherine E. and Peter A. Crowe of Parkton, MD. He will also be missed by two sisters: Ann, married to Dr. Ben Streetman and Betty, married to Jack Craft, both of Austin, TX.
After graduating from high school as valedictorian of his class, Dr. Music received a PhD in physics/chemistry/mathematics from the University of Texas in Austin. He also held a DuPont Fellowship. In 1951, he began a distinguished twenty year career with the General Electric Company. He worked in various management capacities at General Electric, first at the Hanford Nuclear Facility in Richland, WA, then at the Research Laboratory at Schenectady, NY, and at the Missile and Space Division at King of Prussia, PA. In 1971, he left GE at a position third from the top of the company to found his own management consulting firm. Over the years, he worked with over 200 businesses throughout the United States.
Dr. Music was a member if Phi Beta Kappa, the American Chemical Society, the American Physical Society, American Men &Women of Science, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, the Society of the Sigma Xi, Phi Lambda Upsilon, and the Association for Psychological Type. He continued to be an avid reader and prolific writer until the time of his death. In addition to writing books and articles, his passions included religion, philosophy, psychology, logic, and chess. He was devoted to his family and was a great lover of animals, supporting many animal welfare groups.
Visitation will be on Thursday January 5 from 1-1:30p.m. immediately before the memorial service at St. Peter's Chapel of Grace Lutheran Church, 517 N. Queen St., Lancaster, PA. Pastor Stephen Verkouw will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Conestoga Memorial Park, 95 Second Lock Rd., Lancaster, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to ORCA, 610 N. Lime St., Lancaster, PA 17604-2218.
