John David "J.D." Wissler, 62, of Lancaster, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Born in Lancaster, He was the son of the late John W. and Evelyn J. (Weik) Wissler.

J.D. graduated from Warwick High School in 1981 and went on to earn his BFA from Kutztown University in 1985. He later received an MFA in Painting from Parsons School of Design in 1989, launching a professional painting career that spanned over 25 years.

His work was exhibited in numerous galleries throughout Pennsylvania and New York, and he frequently taught art classes at universities in both Maine and Tennessee. He also served as a board member of the Mount Gretna School of Art. Beyond his artistic pursuits, J.D. had a deep appreciation for music, poetry, history, and antiquing.

J.D. is survived by his sister, Jeanine L. Schreiber (wife of Jeffrey); aunt, Lorna Mentzer; uncle, Jere Long; nephew, Brandon Schreiber (husband of Kristen); and niece, Brooke Maharg (wife of Christopher).

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gretna School of Art.
