John N. Hollern, 52, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 11, 2011, in his West Lampeter Twp. Home. He was the loving husband of Faith A. Denlinger Hollern for 13 years and father of Steven A. Hollern.
Born in Harrisburg to Mary Gustin Hollern of Steelton and the late Dennis Hollern, John graduated from Steelton-Highspire High School in 1977. He played on the eastern state champion basketball team his senior year. John then graduated from West Chester State College in 1981. He had been a sales representative for the former Roadway, then ECORE International and lastly Brown Transmission & Bearing, Inc.
John was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and the Saint John Neumann Council 12532 Knights of Columbus. He was a PIAA basketball official, former president of the Capital Area Sports Hall of Fame and a board member of the L-S YMCA summer swim team. He also served as treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 393 in Willow Street.
Surviving in addition to his wife, son and mother are his brother Dennis Hollern, Elizabethtown, his sister Rosemary Green, Middletown and twin brother David, husband of Carol Hollern, Steelton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 AM Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA, with The Rev. Daniel C. Mitzel and The Rev. James Small as Concelebrants. Friends will be received 6-8:30 PM, and the Rosary prayed at 8:30 PM, on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Friends will also be received 10-11 AM on Wednesday at the church. Interment in Paradise Mennonite Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
