Obituary

John E. Hickey Jr., 61, of Strasburg, formerly of Willow Street passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. Born in the Sunnyside section of Lancaster City, he was the son of the late John E. Hickey and the late Claire (Tammany) Hickey. He attended JP McCaskey High School and later worked at the former Angelini & Groff Auto Salvage Co. He enlisted into the US Army where he was discharged as a Private First Class. After getting discharged from the Army he worked for RR Donnelly & Sons in Lancaster for many years. He later went onto own and operate his own landscaping company, J&J Estate Services. John was an avid NASCAR fan, loved the Washington Redskins football team, bowling and enjoyed rolling skating. He attended mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lancaster. Above all John was a great father and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. John touched the lives of many people and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. He is survived by his former wife and longtime friend, Sherri L. Hickey and his son, Joshua D. Hickey of Willow Street and daughter, Jennifer L. Hickey fiancé of Jeffrey Tedder of Conestoga and five grandchildren, Brianna, Isabelle, Brayden, Ethan and Penelope. Also surviving are his three sisters, Sue McMichael wife of Bill, Dinah Wise, Roseanne Keller all of Lancaster; two brothers, Christopher and Michael Hickey both of Willow Street, his grandmother, Hildegard Tammany of Lancaster, his aunt Emma "Cookie" Boyer of Manheim and a host of loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Michael A. Hickey II. A Celebration of John's Life will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz. Family and friends will be received from 6-8PM on Monday, October 9, 2017 at the funeral home and again from 9-11AM at the funeral home on Tuesday morning. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Dr, Lancaster, PA 17603.
