John C Boyer, Sr. 85 of Lancaster passed away April 7, 2018 in Ambler PA after a significant decline in overall health and bout of the flu. He was born April 18th, 1932. He was the son of the late Clayton Boyer and the late Janet (Weachter) Longsdorf, and was the loving husband of Dorothy (Sterback) Boyer, for 55 years before she went to Heaven in April 2010.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Marine Corps and held the rank of Corporal. John was very proud to serve his country and be a Marine. John worked for Alcoa for thirty five years as a machinist and inspector and retired in 1987. He held the position of the Deputy Sealer of weights and measures, Lancaster County retiring in 1995.
He was the member of The Alcoa 25 Year Retiree Club, Military order of the Marine Corp Devil Dogs, and was a life member of the Marine Corps League, Lancaster County Detachment. His accomplishments include: Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus Santa Maria Assembly, Past Faithful Navigator & Honor Guard Commander, National Rifle Association; Certified Rifle, pistol and Hunter Safety Instructor. He also was a Boy Scout Leader in the 60's and 70's. John was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. He and his wife Dotty, and their two sons were founding members.
John was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed shooting targets, hunting, fishing as well as candle making, leather work, and playing harmonica and accordion.
John is survived by his two sons; John C. Jr, married to Lynn (Darrenkamp) Boyer, Lancaster and Jeffery C Boyer, life partner of Mary Jo Aaron, Ambler Pa, Five Grandchildren; Jayne Wenig, Whitney Bodine, Justin, Philip and Rachel Boyer; Six Great-Grandchildren A.J, Leisel and George Wenig, Taylor and Mason Boyer and Harper Ianacone; two siblings Frank E. Boyer and Jimmy Longsdorf. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his sister; Nancy Yarnell and brother; Ronald Boyer.
A visitation will take place Saturday April 14th from 9:30am-10:45am followed by Mass at 11am with Rev Peter Hahn as Celebrant at St Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue Lancaster, PA 17601. Interment Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at 1:30pm at Community Fellowship Church Social Hall, 200 Bethel Drive, Lancaster. Family and friends are invited to any or all of the parts of John's life celebration.
