John Stephen Barlas, 83, of Waterbury, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the husband of the late Amelia (Pagliarulo) Barlas, and the son of the late John and Mary (Papay) Barlas. John was a member of the Torrington Elks Lodge #372 and was a member of Torrington Country Club for over 40 years. He was an excellent father who cherished his daughter and adored his grandchildren. An avid golfer, he lived a good life and lived it to the fullest. Some of his favorite times were dinners with his wife. John was of the Catholic faith, and was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was employed for a number of years as an engineer with Grimes Aerospace until his retirement. John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Pete Jurgaitis; 2 sisters: Terry Barnes and Mary Baron of Philadelphia; and 2 grandchildren: Cloe and Gabe Jurgaitis. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Kern. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 15, 2014 in the Queen of Peace Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, CT.
