Obituary

Jerome "Jerry" Stanley Masinos, 81, of Lancaster, PA passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016. Born in Shamokin, PA he was a son of the late Aleck and Helen (Raginovich) Masinos. After short stints with varying jobs, including 2 hours in a coal mine, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956, leaving Pennsylvania for basic training in Texas and the world that the military provided. He served his country for 26 years as an intelligence analyst and achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. During his military career, he and his family were stationed in Japan, Taiwan, Texas, Korea, Maryland and Okinawa. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1982, his call to serve was not over and he became an analyst for the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland for the next 12 years. While in the Air Force, Jerome obtained his BA in Public Administration and his Master's degree in Counseling and Personnel Services. More importantly, he met his wife, Setsu (Kawasaki) Masinos, while stationed in Misawa, Japan and they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary this past March. Upon his retirement, the couple settled in Lancaster in 1994 where he kept busy gathering for coffee and extended discussions with his friends, taking drives with his wife to surrounding bases, fixing and improving anything and everything around the house with his son-in-law, keeping in touch with his Air Force and National Security Agency friends, training his grand dogs, being a great friend to his daughter and spending quality time with his grandchildren. Jerry was a devoted husband and father who would sought very little for himself but would have moved the earth for his family whatever the need, be that multiple trips to Lowe's, research or just the reliable wisdom of a man who knew so much about so many things. His quick wit, out of tune singing, passionate discussion on non-consequential topics, self-taught handiness, famous mispronunciation of certain words, quiet strength, calm demeanor and kindness to all creatures big and small will be truly missed. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Deborah and son-in-law, Craig Stedman; two grandchildren, Ryan William Stedman and Samantha Masinos Stedman; one sister, Anna Muskey. Jerome was preceded in death by a son, Robert and a daughter, Diana Masinos; one brother Alexander Masinos and two sisters, Theresa Shurock and Rose Adlerhurst. Services for Jerome will be held at the convenience of his family. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Dr., P.O. Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604 or to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, 700 Nursery Rd. Linthicum Heights, MD 21090 in his memory. Share online condolences at SnyderFuneralHome.com Charles F.
