Jere L. Dickerman, 95, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Ernest and Goldie Schmitz Dickerman. Jere was the loving husband of the late Margaret Oberlin Dickerman. He graduated from McCaskey High School, class of 1947. After high school Jere served his country in the United States Army. Stationed in Germany, he worked in communications during the Korean War. After returning home, he worked for Bell Telephone, now known as Verizon, as a teletype repair man. He was interested in model railroading from a young age. Jere was a sports fan who enjoyed golfing and watching his granddaughters' sporting events. His favorite teams were the Phillies, Eagles and Penn State. He enjoyed history, especially local. For over 50 years, he dedicated many hours to restoring his 18th century home. A self-taught artist, Jere leaves behind many pieces of artwork. In addition to oils and watercolors, he specialized in Pennsylvania German frakturs, which he taught and demonstrated at local museums. He also had a love for gardening and observing the beauty of nature.
Surviving are two children, Amy Dickerman, Steve Dickerman, husband of Suzanne, three grandchildren, Emily wife of Connor Recarde, Abigail wife of David Augustine, and Elizabeth wife of Josh Buser, as well as six great grandchildren, Dahlia and Lucy Recarde, Luke and Lena Augustine, and Cohen and Dawson Buser. Preceding him in death are a son, Matthew, and a sister, Shirley Storb.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jere's funeral service at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 North George Street, Millersville, PA 17551 on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you perform an act of kindness in Jere's memory.
