Obituary

Jeffrey Glenn Sweigart, 72, of Lancaster passed away at home peacefully on Wednesday July 9, 2025. Although Jeff had been battling health issues in recent months, his death was unexpected.

Jeff was born in Lancaster on February 16, 1953, to the late Calvin Sweigart and Geraldine (Shertzer) Sweigart. He is survived by his son, Chad Jeffrey Sweigart, of Shavertown and his daughter, Amanda "Mandy" Lynn Sweigart-Quinn, of Millersville. Jeff was thankful to have Caelie McCormick Sweigart of Wilkes Barre for his daughter-in-law and Nathan K. Quinn of Kewanee, IL for his son-in-law. He absolutely loved and adored his granddaughter, Carrigan, and grandson, Cael, and had a soft spot in his heart for his cavapoo grandpup, PQ.

Jeff graduated from Hempfield High School in 1971. During his high school years, he was on the baseball, tennis and wrestling teams. At that time, Jeff developed an interest in road construction. While he started off as the kid mowing lawns around McMinn's Asphalt Co., Inc., throughout the years, Jeff proved himself to be a capable and hard worker at McMinn's. In 1984, Jeff became the sole owner of McMinn's, which he eventually sold in 2007 to Olde Castle Materials/Pennsy Supply. He continued working for Pennsy until his retirement in 2020. Jeff loved road construction. He often said, "Every day I get to play in a giant sandbox." Jeff cared deeply about the wellbeing of everyone who worked at McMinn's. McMinn's success, as Jeff well knew, would not have been possible without the sacrifice of the many dedicated employees that worked for the company.

From the time Jeff was little, he was an avid sports lover. Jeff would talk baseball, football, basketball, and hockey to anyone who was willing to chat. Nearest to Jeff's heart were the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers, the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Hershey Bears, and, later in life, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Rays, and Buccaneers. Jeff enjoyed experiencing sporting events in person with countless friends and family members over the last five decades. One sport Jeff was never fond of in his younger years was soccer. Yet, over the past few years of his life, Jeff softened to the "Beautiful Game" as he spent countless hours watching his grandchildren take the pitch. Jeff had a passion for youth sports, in particular baseball and softball. He believed that all children should have the opportunity to play ball on adequate fields with adequate equipment.

A celebration of Jeff's life will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jeff's name to a charitable organization close to your heart.
