Obituary

Jean (Julius) Wedge Langsett, 90, of Lititz, died Monday, February 8, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Robert C. Langsett, who died in 1999. Born in Anderson, IN in 1925, she was the daughter of the late Russell Wysong and Erma (Blizard) Julius. Mrs. Langsett graduated from Purdue University in 1945 with Distinction, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Industrial Psychology. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Before moving to Lancaster in 1955, she lived in Binghamton, NY; St. Paul, MN; and Evanston, IL. She was an active volunteer in all of these communities. In 1971 she was employed by the Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults as Director of its Information and Referral service. After several years this service became an independent United Way Agency, known as the Lancaster Information Center. Upon her retirement in 1989 it became Administrative Service of United Way, known today as LINC. She served as an early President of the Volunteer Service Bureau and also President of the Lancaster Integrated Transportation (LISTS) Board. Mrs. Langsett and her first husband, Albert C. Wedge, were charter members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Lancaster. They brought back a stone from the Canterbury Cathedral grounds in England which was embedded in the altar of the present church, built in 1969. She was a former member and past President of the Junior League of Lancaster, Inc. From 1978 to 1993 she and her husband Bob lived in Spring Hill Acres, Lebanon. They were members of the Lebanon Country Club where she served on the Board of Directors and as Chairwoman of the Women's Golf Association . She had previously been a member of Media Heights Country Club and the Lancaster Country Club. Mrs. Langsett was formerly a member of the Lititz Women's Club and had volunteered with the Lititz Meals on Wheels. Her other interests included reading, walking, doing crossword puzzles, sewing and needle work, playing bridge, and opera. She is survived by three daughters: Julie Hoff (Jerry); Martha Wedge-Blake (Bryan) and Elizabeth Lind (Martin); and a son, David Wedge (Lisa), all of Lancaster; six grandchildren: David Hoff (Laura); Michael Hoff (Laura); MacKenzie, Abigail, and Hayley Lind; and Kaitlin Wedge; and four great-granddaughters: Averie, Alexa, Adley, and Caroline. She is also survived by 5 stepsons: Christopher, David, Brian, Gregory, and Kevin Langsett and their families. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 301 St. Thomas Rd, Lancaster, PA 17601 with the Rev. Timothy D. Raasch officiating. Friends and family will be received at the church one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family. Kindly omit flowers.
