Jean Bertolet Bucher, 82, of Calvary Fellowship Homes and formerly of Manor Twp., died Monday, July 1, 2013, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late Lloyd Schell and Helen N. Faust Bucher. Jean's wife of 28 years Mildred I. "Jackie" Gay Bucher died in 1996.
A graduate of Waynesburg College, Jean served in the US Army during Korean War. He worked as an electrical engineer for RCA for 33 years. Jean was a charter member and Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church and Wheatland Presbyterian Church. An avid baritone, Jean was active in the Barbershop Harmony Society, Lancaster Civic Chorus, Red Rose Chorus and church choirs. Jean played the baritone horn in the church brass ensemble. He brought comfort and joy through his gift of song during worship at Calvary Fellowship Homes. Jean enjoyed tinkering with electronics and photography using his Polaroid camera and darkroom.
Jean is survived by his son William E. Bucher (Jennifer Burkhart), Lancaster and four grandchildren, Wendi and André Bucher and Jason and Joseph Tracy.
Funeral Services will be held 10 AM Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA 17602, with Rev. Bruce C. Mawhinney officiating. A Visitation will take place 9-10 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment in Friedens Union Cemetery, Sumneytown, PA. Memorial Contributions may be made to Wheatland Presbyterian Church, 1125 Columbia Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603.
