Janet J. Packard, 68, of Lancaster, PA passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was born in Detroit, MI to the late John and Sophie (Lewandowski) Okray. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her family was the core of her existence.
Janet was the wife of the late Charles A. Packard who passed away in 1994.
The Catholic faith was a huge part of Janet's life. She devoted her life to raising her five children and provided them with a Catholic upbringing and education. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Janet attended the University of Detroit.
She was a member of the Sweet Adelines Chapters of Lancaster, Valley Forge, and Harrisburg. She volunteered at the Lancaster General Hospital gift shop, the Fulton Theater Guild, and gave tours of President Buchanan's Wheatland Home. She was a member of the Lancaster Newcomers Group.
Janet enjoyed the arts, singing, theater, painting, and traveling globally. She valued relationships and her close network of friends.
She is survived by five children, two daughters, Cyndi Mooney, wife of Christopher, of Lincoln University, Susan Prantil, wife of Robert, of West Chester, three sons, Jeff Packard, husband of Laleh, of Leesburg, VA, Chuck Packard, of Lancaster, Quinton Packard, husband of Sharon, of Virginia Beach, VA, thirteen grandchildren, two sisters, Patricia Donnelly, wife of Bud, of Harbor Beach, MI, Dorothy Okray, of University Park, FL, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 11:30am from St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 501 E. Orange St. Lancaster, PA 17602 with Rev. Daniel Mitzel as the Celebrant. A visitation with the family will take place at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home Inc. 414 E. King St. Lancaster, PA 17602 on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm with the Holy Rosary Recitation at 7:45pm and again on Wednesday from 10-11am at the funeral home. Interment will take place from the Mausoleum at Conestoga Memorial Park. Memorial Contributions in Janet's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society 314 Good Drive Lancaster, PA 17603.
