James D. Walter, 70, of East Lampeter Township, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 19, 2018. Born in Lititz, he was a son of the late Donald and Norma (Foltz) Walter, and the beloved husband of Carole Ann (McQuate) Walter. James attended Warwick High School. A member of the U.S. Navy, he honorably served his country during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Mauna Kea. He worked as a Reel and Speed Operator for Alcoa, from where he retired after 34 years of service. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. A race car enthusiast, he enjoyed working with micro sprints and spent many weekends at the Clyde Martin Memorial Speedway. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Caring Hospice Services of Lancaster for their excellent and compassionate care of James during his illness. In addition to his wife, Carole, James is survived by his step-daughter, Dixie Colvin and her husband Thomas, a son, Shawn Walter, and a daughter, Yvette Walter Herr, all of Lancaster. Also surviving is a brother, Jeff Walter of Lititz; three sisters, Judy Reichenbach and her husband Bob of Brownstown, Jenny Bradley and her companion Frank Showers of Lititz, and Jeanie Wahl and her husband Frederick, MD; two grandchildren, Timothy Torrens and Rachel Hardy; four god-grandchildren, Lenaya Stallworth, Hunter West, Chance West and Cassity Eckman; a great-granddaughter, Belle Torrens; and two uncles, Neven Walter and Richard Walter. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a step-son Michael Cauler. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service which will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, February 23, 2018, at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, 17543, where a viewing will be held beginning at 10 AM until time of services. Interment will follow at Bird-in-Hand United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in James' name may be offered to Lancaster County SPCA, 848 Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603, or consider donating blood to the Central PA Blood Bank on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Lancashire Hall, 2829 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, 17543.
