He dropped out to join the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean conflict. An avid Yellow Jackets fan, Jim always looked forward to the football and basketball seasons.

Jim joined the Naval Reserves (Seabees) in 1963 and retired as a Commander from the United States Navy in 1992. He took great pride in serving his country. Jim spent the bulk of his career (28 years) as an engineer at Armstrong World Industries. A life time member of the Knights of Columbus, he attended St. Anne's Catholic Church. Jim, who is still waiting for "a visit from the PCH Prize Patrol!", enjoyed spending time in the company of people of all ages.
