James N. Moshos, 85, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on January 7, 2016 at Luther Acres. Born in Lebanon, PA, he was the son of the late Nicholas A. & Katina (Kitsis) Moshos. Jim was the husband of the late Thalia H. (Patounas) Moshos (June 19, 2008).
Jim was a 1949 graduate of JP McCaskey High School. Following high school Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force and gained the rank of staff sergeant. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Returning from the service he worked at RCA and several restaurants in Lancaster before opening his own pizza restaurant, Mamma Mia's Pizzeria, with his wife Thalia, on E. James St and N. Lime St for 32 years. He was an assistant tennis coach at Manheim Township High School Boys & Girls Teams.
Jim was a member at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and volunteered for many duties at the church. He was an active member in the Philoptochos Society. Jim helped prepare and cook the memorial meal at Annunciation Church for family and friends after their loved ones' funeral services. Jim, Art & George Moshos helped for many years at Annunciation Church Annual Bazaar and many other functions where they helped prepare and cook many meals. He was also a member of AHEPA Lancaster Red Rose Chapter #71 and a member of the Hellenic Bowling Team at Leisure Lanes.
He played tennis, bridge, pinochle, and traveled extensively with his wife, Thalia. He enjoyed special family trips together to Greece, New Hampshire and Canada. Jim loved spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are two sons: William J. Moshos, husband of Georgia M., and Mark J. Moshos, husband of Angela M., all of Lancaster, PA; three grandchildren: Thalia P. Moshos, James and Andrew Moshos.
Jim was preceded in death by his two brothers: Arthur and George Moshos.
A viewing will take place from 6-8 PM on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave, Lancaster PA. A second viewing will be 9:30 to 10:30am on Monday, with the funeral service at 10:30am with Father Alex Goussetis and Father Alexander Veronis officiating. Interment will be at Conestoga Memorial Park with Military Honors by Red Rose Honor Guard and Veteran's 21 Salute Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Philoptochos Society, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603.
