James H. Klinger, 79, formerly of Manheim Twp., died at The Mennonite Home on Sunday, February 15, 2015. Born and raised in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Harry and Mildred (Klinger) Klinger. James was the husband of Marilyn Brodhecker Klinger for 57 years.
He graduated from William Penn High School, Harrisburg, and then from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1957 with a Bachelors in Education. A school business manager, James worked for Octorara Area School District for 28 years and then Manheim Township School District for 4 years. Lastly, James was the business manager for First Presbyterian Church Lancaster. Professionally, James was a member of PSEA and the Lancaster County Tax Collectors Association.
James loved music and was often found humming to any music he heard. As a youth James was a paid soloist at his Harrisburg church. He was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. James enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake aboard his 38' Holiday Mansion; traveling the Caribbean, Europe and the US; woodworking, vegetable gardening and cheering for the Redskins.
He was a former long term member of Highland Presbyterian Church, and was previously active in Perseverance Lodge #21 F.&A.M., Zembo Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. and the Zembo Police Guard.
In addition to his loving wife Marilyn, James is survived by a son, Robert Klinger, husband of Darla (Divet), Landisville; a daughter, Nancy Ann, wife of the late Thomas Lawrence, Bowie, MD; 6 grandchildren and a sister, Martha Jean, wife of Paul Gish, Rockford, IL.
A viewing will take place 1 to 2 pm, followed by the funeral at 2 pm, on Friday, February 20, 2015, at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Pastor Douglas Evans will officiate. Interment in Landis Valley Mennonite Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater PA, 2595 Interstate Dr., Ste. 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to Shriners Hospital for Children, 3551 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19140.
