It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Matthew Kane II, who departed this life peacefully on July 4, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on November 29, 1945, in Wayne, Pennsylvania, James was a cherished member of his community in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, where he resided for many years. He was the loving husband of the late Betty Lou Kane.

James was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, obtaining the rank of Seaman, and a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal in the Vietnam War, until his honorable discharge in 1967.

A devoted father and grandpa, James took great pride in his family, particularly in his son, Brian Kane, and his grandsons. He was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to friends and family and cherished the simpler joys of life, often found tinkering around his home or enjoying a quiet game of solitaire.

He is survived by his son, Brian Kane, husband of Dawn of Leola, grandsons Tanner and Christian Kane, and sisters, Trish D’Ascanio and Maureen McGrady. He was preceded in passing by his wife, Betty Lou and his parents, James Sr. and Mary Kane. James’s life will be celebrated at a series of ceremonies scheduled for July 11, 2026. A visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, at Timberline Church, 30 Timber Lane, Strasburg, PA. Interment to follow at Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery.
