James F. "Jim" Murray, 87, of Brethren Village, Lancaster, a brilliant thinker and businessman, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013. He was born in Manhattan, New York and was the son of the late James F. and Mary (Coates) Murray.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marian K. (Houser) Murray, of Brethren Village. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on September 4, 2013.
Jim was a WWII Veteran with the US NAVY.
Jim was an Insurance Executive for over 40 years. He retired from Johnson and Higgins of PA, Inc. as Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice President.
He was an avid golfer and sports fan. He mostly enjoyed watching the Phillies play.
After retirement they moved to Clearwater, FL from 1986-1999 and in 1999 they decided to move to Lancaster.
He was a member of St Thomas Episcopal Church.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife is a sister-in-law, Jeanne Houser, of Plymouth Meeting, brother-in-law, William Houser, husband of Ellen R., of Terre Hill and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, John Houser.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church 301 St. Thomas Rd. Lancaster, PA 17601 on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 11AM with the Rev. Jonathan Currier officiating. A visitation with the family will be from 10-11AM at the church. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
