IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James E.
Hunter
April 10, 2023
James E. Hunter, age 71, passed away at his home on April 10, 2023. He was born to the late Lewis and Elsie (Atkinson) Hunter in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Jim married Sandy Love on August 16, 1975 and later had two children: Roxannah and David.
Jim found tremendous joy riding his bike. When he was young, he used his bike to deliver newspapers. After he had his children, he attached a child seat to the back and took them for rides around the Clay Road homestead. In his later years, Jim found spin class and discovered a love for riding in sync to upbeat tunes.
Jim's devotion to cycling over the years mirrors his dedication to his work. He never called in sick or complained about long distance sales calls. He learned the technical aspects of the control valves with the expertise of an engineer. His MBA from Shippensburg remains one of Jim's most cherished accomplishments.
Jim also loved cheering for his favorite sports teams. A Pennsylvania resident, he found himself outnumbered in his uncompromising support of the Ohio State Buckeyes. When college football wasn't in season, he was on the sidelines of a soccer field or in the stands at a field hockey game cheering with the intensity of a proud parent.
Jim was a man of motion- a vital characteristic robbed by his ALS diagnosis. Handling the small aircraft he once piloted in his thirties and walking to his tree stand during hunting season became cherished memories rather than activities to enjoy in retirement.
Overall, Jim was a man of consistency and devotion: married 47 years, peddled 5,000 miles/year, and ate Turkey Hill ice cream every night. He loved his granddaughter, Elaina, fiercely and always had a warm lap for his grandcat, Bodhi.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sandy K. Hunter of Mount Joy; two children: Roxannah Hunter of Lancaster and David Hunter (fiancé of Hannah Cleckner) of Palmyra; one grandchild: Elaina Hunter; five siblings: Joyce Mead, Janice Felo, Jeanne Hunter, Joanne Else and John Hunter as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at LCBC, 2392 Mount Joy Rd, Manheim, PA 17545 on Friday April 21, 2023 with a celebration of Jim's life that will begin at 2pm. Burial will be private.
