James L Gilbert, 88, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was married to Helen C. Treier Gilbert for 53 years last December. Born in Lancaster to Anna Gilbert Kernstein, Jim still lived in his childhood home.

He served with the infantry in the US Army in the European Theater of Operations during WWII. Jim had been a house painter for E & C Painting. A handyman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing boating and tending his garden. Jim loved his poodle "Butterscotch". He was a member of American Legion Post135, Perryville, MD.

Surviving in addition to his wife Helen are 5 children, Linda Lee Gilbert, Indiana, Cindy, wife of Patrick Brown, Jr., Lancaster, James "Jamie" Gilbert, Jr., Lancaster, Thomas Gilbert, husband of Kelly, New Providence and Tim Gilbert, Willow Street; and 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

The Funeral will be held 11 AM, with a viewing from 10-11 AM, on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA, The Rev. Mark J.
