Hubert A. Riester, Jr. 97, of Willow Street, PA, passed away on August 29, 2024. He was the loving husband of the late Clara H. Riester for 72 years. Born in Camden, New Jersey he was the son of the late Hubert and Lora Riester who were immigrants from Triberg, Germany, an area of the Black Forest known for manufacturing clocks. Hubert's father was a watch and clockmaker and started a business in Philadelphia. While growing up, Hubert worked in his father's store and continued to restore antique clocks throughout his life.

After graduating from Collingswood High School in New Jersey, Hubert enrolled as an electrical engineering student at Drexel University. During the first year, he was drafted into the United States Army in WWII and served in occupied Japan. Upon receiving an honorable discharge after serving two years, he completed his Bachelor's degree and went on to obtain a Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. For most of his career, he worked for Fischer and Porter Company in Warminster, PA where he retired as Senior Vice President of Engineering. Hubert and Clara lived and raised their family in Huntingdon Valley, PA. They moved to the Willow Valley Communities in Lancaster PA in 2001.

Hubert loved to dance, travel, play bridge and chess, and spend his summers in Ocean City, NJ with his extended family.

Hubert is survived by his three children: Carolyn Riester O'Connor, Frederick H. Riester (Marilene), and Janet Riester Walsh (William); his grandchildren; Erica O'Connor Byram, William R. O'Connor, Kaitlyn E. Riester, John C. Riester, Alissa J. Walsh and Daniel W. Walsh; one sister-in-law Janet Riester; nine great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Hubert is preceded in death by his brothers: Albert E. Riester and Walter H. Riester; his brother-in-law Eric Maier and sisters-in-law Elinor Maier and Sallie Riester as well as one niece and one nephew.

Friends and family are respectfully invited to a graveside service at Hillside Cemetery, 2556 Susquehanna Rd, Roslyn, PA 19001 on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 12pm as well as a Memorial Service in the Johnson Auditorium at Willow Valley North 600 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA on September 28, 2024 at 2pm.
