Obituary

Henry A. Shave, 92, of Peach Bottom, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community.

He was the husband of Martha Hertzig Shave, with whom he shared 27 years of marriage this past August 12 th . Born in Bessemer, MI, he was the son of the late Samuel and Alvina Domrose Shave, being the second youngest of 8 children.

Henry had served in the US Army for 24 years, served as a Warrant Officer Four, and retired as a Major. He then worked for the US Government in Civil Service for 18 more years as a prototype equipment tester, retiring from Aberdeen Proving Ground.

He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Lititz.

Henry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved woodworking, being known for his hand carved crosses that he enjoyed giving to others, and carved walking sticks. He was a charter member of the American National Cane Club. He also maintained a merchant marine license as an engineer of motorized vessels.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Virginia Married to James D. McCreery of  Yorktown, VA, Rolf married to June Shave of Davenport, IA, and Norris Shave of Toano, VA; 5 grandsons, and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Eric F. Shave,  and his 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

Friends will be received on Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 10-11AM at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 308 Petersburg Rd., Lititz, PA, 17543 with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM. Private interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Ethiopian Mission in care of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church at the above address.
