Henry W. Dorwart, 93, of Lancaster died March 8, 2017 at his home. He was the husband of the late Florence Herbert Dorwart who died in 2003. Born in Lancaster he was a son of the late Harry W. and Margaret (Resh) Dorwart, and the stepson of the late John A. Von Stetten. He graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School, Class of 1941, and attended Franklin & Marshall College and Penn State University. Henry was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. He was past president of the Insurance Association of Central Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, and past president of the Air Force Association, York-Lancaster Chapter, and past president of the Air Force Academy Falcon Families. He was employed in the insurance industry for 32 years representing several large Multi-line Insurance Companies as a Senior Field Representative; Senior Inspector/Appraiser and Loss Control/Safety Specialist and retired from Selective Insurance Company of America, New Jersey in 1986. Henry served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and 78th Infantry Division during World War II, earning numerous military decorations including the European Theatre with Three Clusters, Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council #867 and Santa Maria Assembly 4th Degree and International Order of the Alhambra, Mecca Caravan #88 having held offices in all organizations. He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law: Donald and Cindy of Lancaster and Dr. Robert and Nancy of Indiana; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Mary Ann (Von Stetten) Carroll of FL and Margaret Rose (Von Stetten) Bisking Gates (Don) of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred C. Parker, Elizabeth F. Brown and one brother, David E. Dorwart. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 12:00PM from St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave. Lancaster, PA 17601 with Fr. Peter Hahn as celebrant. Interment will be held in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Lancaster with Military Honors rendered by Vet 21 Salute and Red Rose Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 10AM until the time of his funeral mass at 12PM at the church. The Santa Maria Assembly will stand guard at the church for Henry, a fellow Sir Knight. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Henry's memory to St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17601 or Hospice For All Seasons, 280 South Hill Drive, Grantville, PA 17028 or the VFW, 824 1st. St. Lancaster, PA 17603 in his memory.
