Helen E. Smith, 95, lifelong resident of Lancaster, PA, went home to be with her Lord, Jesus, on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Evergreen Estates. Born June 24, 1922 to Fred & Bessie Saurbaugh, she was 1 of 9 children. Helen was the wife of 35 years to the late George H. Smith. She was a member of the First Church of God, Lancaster. Helen was known for her homemade Christmas sand tarts and her peanut butter Easter eggs. She liked gardening, knitting and sewing. Helen is survived by a daughter-in-law, Louise Eckman; granddaughters: Greta L. Smith (Jamie) and Gena L. Fitz Gibbon (Andrew); 6 great-grandchildren; step-son, George Smith, Jr. (Janet); 3 step-grandchildren: Mike Smith, Mark Smith (Patty) and Linda Ponader (Jonathan); 3 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn Schmid; and many nieces & nephews. She is preceded in death by a son, Gary L. Eckman and 7 siblings. A viewing will take place from 6-8 PM on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602. Viewing will continue from 10-11 AM with a Funeral Service to begin at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 10 at the funeral home.
