Harry H. Wieler, 92, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Mennonite Home. Born in Siberia, Russia, Harry was the son of the late Henry P. and Suzanne Nickol Wieler. He was married to Helen A. Angelos Wieler on July 7, 1984, and had been married to the late Jane E. (Kistler) Wieler.
A 1936 graduate of Boys High School, Harry attended Franklin and Marshall College for one year. A veteran of World War II, he served as Metalsmith 1 st Class (Petty officer) in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Varuna A.G.P5 in the South Pacific Campaign.
Harry was employed as gang leader in the sheet metal shop at Armstrong World Industries for 45 years before retiring in 1980.
Harry was instrumental in saving his Russian Heritage through his father's journals written during the Russian Revolution. A book, "The Quiet In The Land", was published sharing that history.
A member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Harry was a member of Guys and Dolls Senior Group, Silver Threads Senior Group, Park City Twalkers Senior Group, and American Legion Post 34. Harry enjoyed reading and traveling.
In addition to his wife, Harry is survived by his step-children, Mary A., wife of Carl McClune of Willow Street, Nick E. Angelos of Agoura Hills, CA, 4 step-grandchildren, 5 step-greatgrandchildren, and sisters, Mary S. Swanson, and Lillie Bernhardt, both of West Palm Beach, FL. He is preceded in death by his step-son Capt. William Angelos, and brother, John H. Wieler.
Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603, with Rev. Alexander Goussetis officiating. A viewing will be held 9:30 until 10:30 at the church. Entombment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. Arrangements by Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Lancaster, PA. Please omit flowers, contributions in Harry's memory may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
