Harry L. Stigelman, 86, of Millersville, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on January 17, 2025. He was the husband of Carol Brenner Stigelman, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage this past May 21st. Born in Millersville, he was the son of the late Harry H. and Lillie Breneman Stigelman.
Harry graduated from Penn Manor in 1956 where he lettered in soccer, basketball, and baseball. He had a love for all kinds of sports and was a member of both the Penn Manor Wall of Fame and the Susquehanna Valley Sports Hall of Fame.
A proud veteran, he served on active duty in the US Army from 1961 to 1963 with the 4th Armored Division. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves for 4 years.
A talented baseball player, Harry had played in the minor league system of the Detroit Tigers from 1959 to 1961 and again in 1964. Harry pitched for the Montgomery Rebels, Duluth-Superior Dukes, Durham Bulls, and Knoxville Smokies. His love for the game led him to be the head and assistant baseball coach for Millersville University for over 15 years, where he never had a losing season.
Harry was retired from Millersville University where he was a Police Officer for 27 years. Prior to this, he had worked for the RCA Corporation as a tube tester.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, hunting, baseball card collecting, and family vacations to the beach and the mountains.
Harry was a member of Hempfield United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his children: Jessica L. married to Wes Swanson of Washington Boro, Kelly B. Stigelman of Lancaster, and Brad M. married to Shonna Stigelman of Millersville; his 6 grandchildren: Lillie, Leah, Colton, Ella, Jase, and Boone; by his brothers: Glenn married to Margy Stigelman of Lititz, and Jay married to Carol Stigelman of Mountville and by his sister-in-law, Iona Stigelman of Millersville. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert.
Friends will be received by Harry's family on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 2-4PM at the Charles Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, with the Funeral Service to start at 4PM. Interment will be private.
