Harris, Jr.
December 13, 1941 – August 6, 2017
Dr. Harold J. Harris, Jr., 75, of Millersville, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017. Born in Wilkes Barre, he was the son of the late Dr. Harold J. Harris Sr. and Marion Chaffey Harris. Harold graduated from Mercersburg Academy, received his Bachelors' Degree from Dickinson College, followed by his Masters' Degree at Temple University. He completed his PhD in Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania in 1979. He was instrumental in developing an early fall break for Millersville University students and was involved with the University's ROTC. Harold was the Director of Counseling and retired from Millersville University after 34 years. Harold enjoyed all sports and was the quarterback at Dickinson College. He was an avid bowler in numerous leagues, enjoyed golfing, football and basketball. He preferred college sports especially Penn State football and Duke basketball. Harold loved going to the beach and spending time with his family. In addition to his beloved wife of 38 years, Mary, Harold is survived by his children: Joe Hoffer and his wife Anne of Chicago, IL, Mathew C. Harris and his wife Meagan of Millersville, Joseph C. Harris of Redlands, CA and Lorah T. Meixell and her husband John of Quarryville; his grandchildren: Isaac, Tessa, Blake and Stella; his siblings: Marion Alexander of Bellefonte, PA, Joan Riebel of Schuylersville, NY and Dr. Brian Harris of Hershey. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Harold's funeral service at The Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 N. George Street, Millersville, on Friday August 11, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Visitation with the family begins at 12:00 PM.
