Dr. H. Byron Showers died on April 5, 2015 at Brethren Village, Lancaster, PA, of natural causes. He previously resided at 1432 Mission Rd., Lancaster. Born in Reading, in 1930, he was the son of the late Herman S. and Melva E. (Youse) Showers. He was a graduate of Reading High School in 1948; Houghton College, Houghton, NY, A.B. 1952,; Temple University, M. Div., 1955; and Rutgers University, Ed.M. 1958, and Ed.D. 1964. Byron served as a Professor of Counselor Education and Psychology at Millersville University from 1965-1990. Previously he was an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Monmouth College, West Long Branch, NJ and a Lecturer in Education at Rutgers University. He served as past President of PACES (PA Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors) and as past Secretary Treasurer of NARACES (North Atlantic Regional Association of Counselor Educators and Supervisors). He was active in the community having served as past Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Lancaster County Republican Committee and also on the Pennsylvania State Republican Committee. In addition, he served as past President of Lancaster Northeast Rotary Club and served on the Board of Trustees of the Stevens State School of Technology. Those who will dearly miss this kind and loving family man are his wife of 63 years, Jane M. (Knabb) and three children: David S. Showers, husband of Dianne (Abrams), of Boalsburg, PA; Dr. Thomas L. Showers; and Shelley A. Showers of Cherry Hill, NJ. Byron had two granddaughters, Alexandra and Michelle Showers. He is also survived by 2 sisters: Grace Supplee, wife of Ernest, of Brethren Village and Carol Mast, widow of Jack, of Sinking Spring; 2 step-sisters: Lillian Stuber, wife of the Rev. Warren Stuber of Greensville, SC and Sandra Adams, wife of Jensen, of Fleetwood. He was preceded in death by a step-brother, William Kline. Family and friends will be received for a viewing from 6-8 PM, on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Brethren Village chapel, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17606. Funeral Services for Byron will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 10, 2015, at Brethren Village chapel, with Pastor Len Calhoun officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Long Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Byron's name may be made to Long Memorial Methodist Church, 2660 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 or Brethren Village Samaritan Fund, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17606.
