H. Bruce Fasnacht, 77, of East Petersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Lancaster General Hospital.
He was the husband of Lois C. Watson Fasnacht, with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage this past June 7 th . Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Harry W. and Mildred Slaugh Fasnacht.
Bruce had been a history teacher, guidance counselor and school administrator for the Hempfield School District for 33 years, until his retirement in 1992. At Hempfield, he was involved with the basketball program in a variety of capacities since 1959 through this past season,and served as the football announcer for 34 years. Bruce had also been an announcer for many PIAA championships from 1976 to the present. Upon retirement, Bruce served on the Hempfield School Board.
He loved the Chesapeake Bay where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and jet skiing.
Bruce was a US Army veteran from 1953 to 1955, serving during the Korean War.
Mr. Fasnacht graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1952. After his military service, he graduated from Millersville State Teachers College in 1959. He earned a Master of Science in Education Degree from Temple University.
In addition to his wife Lois, he is survived by his daughter, Victoria A. married to Thomas Marrolli of Mountville; his granddaughter Kimberly Marrolli; his brother Jeffrey W. married to Dr. Patsy Fasnacht of Landisville, and his sister Esta Fegley. He is also survived by his nephews, Matthew, Timothy, and Christopher, his niece Marcy, and by his great nephew, Bennett. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Fasnacht Pierce.
Friends will be received on Saturday, October, 29, 2011 from 9:30-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home &Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund in the Fasnacht name.
