Obituary

Gloria C. (Saco) Barbaro, 86, of Columbia and formerly of Elmont, NY, passed away peacefully Friday, December 21, 2012 at her residence, surrounded by those who loved her the most:  her husband and children.

Born in Paterson, NJ, she was the wife of Vitorocco "Vic" Barbaro of Columbia, and the daughter of the late Michael and Nadima (Baylouny) Saco.

She was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.  She was also a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elmont, NY.

A woman of strong faith, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, bingo, and listening to the music of Glenn Miller.  She loved Syrian music, the music of her heritage, and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 64 years, she is survived by five children:  Angela R. Barbaro of Lake Carmel, NY; Nadine M. Valerio of Naples, FL; Gerard M. Barbaro of Poughquag, NY; Michael R. Barbaro of Mountville; and John A. Barbaro of Phoenixville; seven grandchildren:  Shara R. Ball, Raymond G. and Anthony C. Valerio, and Grace N., Michaela I., Jerron J. and Abigail W. Barbaro; and five great-grandchildren:  Gavin C., Trevor P., and Adrienne S. Ball and Lydia S. and baby boy Valerio.  She was preceded in death by seven siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Thursday, December 27, 2012 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church with The Rev. Peter I. Hahn as Celebrant.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church, from 9 to 10:45 AM.  Burial will take place at 12:00 PM Friday, December 28, 2012 at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 2030 Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale, NY.
