Obituary

Glenn R. Dimeler, 74, retired chemist of Willow Valley Retirement Community, Willow Street, PA formerly of West Chester, PA died September 5, 2008 at The Lakeside at  Willow Valley.

He was the husband of Frances M. Zucco Dimeler and the son of the late Roy B. Dimeler and Helen C. Warfel Dimeler of Middletown, Dauphin Co., PA.

Mr. Dimeler retired in 1989 after 32 years service in Research and Development with Sun Oil Company, Philadelphia, PA.  With Sun, he authored numerous technical publications and held over 20 U.S. Patents.  At the time of his retirement, he was Manager of Product Development for Process Materials.  After his retirement, he was a consultant in the field of petroleum product development and technology mainly for Calumet Lubricants, Indianapolis, IN .

Born in Hershey, PA, Mr. Dimeler was a graduate of Middletown, Dauphin Co., High School.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Elizabethtown College in 1956 and his Master's degree in chemistry from the University of Delaware in 1958.

His hobbies included coaching youth baseball, golf, bridge, and sports car rallying.  An avid automotive enthusiast, he built and maintained race cars for his sons, who won two national quarter midget championships.  He enjoyed music and played the trumpet in the Lancaster Senior Orchestra.  He was an honorary member of the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.  For many years he loved to spend the winter months in South Carolina.

He was a past member of the American Chemical Society; the American Institute for Chemists; the Philadelphia Catalyst Club; the Rubber Division of the American Chemical Society, Sports Car Club of America, Quarter Midget Club of America, and various local racing clubs.

He was a former member of St. Peter's Church in Middletown, Sts. Simon and Jude Church in West Chester, and, more recently, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lancaster.

In addition to his wife, Frances, with whom he celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary in May, he is survived by two sons, Craig A. Dimeler of Huntsville, AL, and Scott C. Dimeler of Goffstown, NH; a daughter, Glenda R. Dimeler of Carrollton, VA; two stepsons, Joseph M. DeFrank of Narvon, PA, and Michael A. DeFrank of Parkesburg, PA; 13 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 119 S. Prince St., Lancaster with Rev. Leo M. Goodman officiating.  Friends may pay their respects to the family at the Church one hour before Mass.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, kindly consider sending a  contribution in Glenn's memory  to Camilla Hall Nursing Home, P.O.
