Glenda Broad 81, of Marticville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 14th, 2024. She was born and raised in Washington DC by her parents, the late Glenn C. and Ruby D. Hoffmaster. Glenda grew up in the nation's capital before embarking on a life of love, service, and adventure.
She is survived by her husband Jerome "Pepper" Broad, Children, Kevin Fryer (Missy Fryer) of Cleveland, Ohio, Beth Poggioli (Tim Poggioli) of Baldwin, Maryland, Julie Boski of Bel Air, Maryland and Lauren Carroll (Jim Carroll) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and 8 grandchildren, Sarah, Charlie, Michael (Eileen), Joshua, Jayme, Ellie, Jacob, and Colin.
After completing nursing school at the Washington Hospital Center, she became a Registered Nurse and continued as a Registered Nurse for the rest of her life. In 1968 Glenda married Robert Piaskowski and moved to Baltimore Maryland where she worked as a visiting nurse in Baltimore City, and then at Greater Baltimore Medical Center and Church Home Hospital. During her career, mostly in critical care, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Notre Dame University of Maryland in Baltimore. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Maryland at Baltimore.
Glenda and Pepper were married over 32 years ago in Morgantown, West Virginia, and lived there for over 10 years. In 2003, they moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Glenda's life was exciting in many ways. She became a private pilot and spent many years flying single-engine airplanes. Glenda was an accomplished quilter and a member of the Lancaster Modern Quilt Guild. Most of her quilts went to family members and friends. She was an avid reader of many types of books. Glenda served in the Lancaster County Nurse Honor Guard and at The Mission in Lancaster as a diabetes nutrition consultant and tutor.
Glenda traveled the world taking trips to Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean islands. Her happiest was a trip to Amsterdam for tulip season.
Glenda had a special relationship with God and was a member of Saint John's Episcopal Church in Lancaster.
She was the most loved neighbor in our community, waving to all on her daily walks.
A celebration of life will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church 321 W Chestnut St, Lancaster, PA 17603 on October 26th at 10 am.
Glenda's presence in the lives of her family, friends, and the community will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations in Glenda's honor will be accepted at St. John's Episcopal Church in Lancaster, The Bob Fryer and Family Hospice Center, and The Ninety-Nines.
